Friedl Dicker-Brandeis was a prolific artist and a gifted teacher. She started to work with children in Vienna and Prague in the 1930s. In the late 1930s, she was constantly facing the dilemma - whether to devote herself to art, or to teaching.

In 1938, Friedl Dicker-Brandeis was offered a visa to Palestine. She refused it. "I cannot leave, I have a mission to complete. I have to stay here, whatever happens", she told one of her friends.

Her work with children in Terezin ghetto/concentration camp in 1943-44 was not just an act of courage, but also a realization of an exceptional educational method, the fulfillment of her teaching mission.

This computer catalogue shows only several drawings of her students. Much research is needed to understand the meaning of her teaching, its links and influences to the modern art, art education and art therapy.
